About Our Founder: Jung Myeong Seok

For 2,000 years the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ has been spreading all over the world. Throught this history of providence there have been powerful men of God who made significant advances for the kingdom.
Providence Church is a Christian organization created to spread that gospel among the youth. Originally founded in Korea 30 years ago, Providence has now spread to 50 different nations. Our mission is to resurrect the arts, educations, and the understanding of this world by encouraging a lifestyle of giving glory to God.
The organization was originally founded by Joshua Jung, commonly referred to as, “Teacher” in Korean. He grew up in poverty but dedicated his every moment to Jesus Christ and God. In a remote mountainside village of Korea he spent his early years reading the Bible, praying, and putting to practice the actions of love, such as feeding the poor and healing the sick.
After being drafted to the Vietnam War he learned how truly difficult it is to really put Jesus’ words to practice. Despite the circumstances, he was determined to “love his enemies” and as a result, he truthfully declares that he didn’t take the life of even one person even during the two times he served at war. Through many of these difficult situations he realized how to care for and save people even when surrounded by death and fighting.
After his Vietnam War experience and after seeing many needless deaths, he vowed to God that he will bring lives to God all throughout the world. It was then that he began Providence church in the streets of Seoul, Korea. He teaches people about God by explaining the Bible, he encourages the members to make heaven wherever we go, and he emphasizes the need for all of us to be beneficial people first to ourselves, then to one another, the world, and of course, our creator.
His strong belief is that salvation comes by truly living by Jesus’ words every day and living a life of faith through action. Through this organization young people are encouraged to take on charity and volunteer work within or outside the church, to develop our God-given skills and talents, to make peace with everyone around us, and to succeed in our studies or careers.
He has been leading the Providence church for 30 years but has led sufficiently enough that today those same polished and shining youth have taken positions of leadership in their families, churches, and communities, inspiring hope and change among all the nations. He still continues to spread Jesus’ gospel througout the world.
